Why you'll love this recipe for chocolate-covered nuts

Salted dark chocolate-covered nuts are the ultimate snack and edible holiday gift. I bet we can all agree that pairing nuts with chocolate is a universally loved treat, especially for lovers of sweet and salty flavors and crunchy textures. This recipe is a breeze — melt chocolate, drizzle, set, and break into pieces. It's so easy and makes a fantastic food activity for kids!

Ingredients

  • Nuts - Use any combination of mixed nuts or individual favorites.
  • Chocolate chips - I prefer dark chocolate chips with a high cacao ratio, but any chocolate will be well-suited to this recipe, especially if it's your favorite!
  • Coconut oil - This gives melted chocolate a smooth texture.
  • Salt - (optional) I prefer gourmet salt, such as flaky sea salt or truffle Salt. However, any variety can be used.

How to make chocolate-covered nuts

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread nuts in an even layer and set aside. Melt the chocolate and oil in the microwave (or on the stove) in a heat-safe bowl. Whisk the chocolate until smooth and silky.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the nuts and sprinkle of salt. Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator or freezer for 15 minutes or until the chocolate sets up. Break the sheet of coated nuts into clusters with your hands.

Recipe tips

  • Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat creates a natural, non-stick surface with easy cleanup.
  • Use any nuts for this recipe. I prefer unsalted mixed nuts, but you can opt for any variety.
  • Dark chocolate is my preference for this recipe. However, you might like to use white chocolate or milk chocolate.
  • Allow the chocolate to set completely before removing the nuts from the tray to avoid smudging.

Serving ideas

  • Combine chocolate-covered nuts with pretzels, dried fruits, and other snacks for a tasty trail mix.
  • This sweet and salty snack disappears fast at Super Bowl parties.
  • Sprinkle them on ice cream, yogurt, or desserts for added crunch and flavor.
  • These are the perfect snack for a charcuterie board. The sweet and salty flavors pair wonderfully with cheeses, fruits, and crackers.
  • Turn chocolate-covered nuts into an edible Christmas gift package with White Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats and White Chocolate Peppermint Pretzels. Or make them for your sweetheart on Valentine's Day.
  • Add chocolate-covered nuts to your sundae bar next to the sprinkles.
  • Pack chocolate-covered nuts into the family's lunch boxes for a healthy, mid-day snack.

Your recipe is missing the caramelization steps for the nuts. Otherwise, it's just nuts on a tray with drizzled chocolate. There needs to be a binder for the nuts.

Hi Mel, actually, chocolate drizzled nuts are what I was going for, but feel free to modify. What is the binder you have in mind? Curious minds might like to know. Thanks!

Thanks Luci! I recommend trying before buying if you're able to get a taste of it somewhere. Mostly because it has a very strong flavor (which I LOVE!). Come to think of it, I've never met anyone who said they didn't like it LOL, but I still like to warn people to try it first 🙂
